I read about Victor in the Vice magazin. I was bridging my time at time at Bodega until a job interview around the corner. Reading the story about an American Communist who defected to East Germany was a surprising fact on it's own. It was interesting reading about another chapter of that part in history I grew up in. What got me hooked was the fact that he was imprisioned in my home town and that I found other crossings of path. I wrote him. He was and is living in Berlin. On one of my visits home to Germany I met him in Berlin. At a Chinese restaurant on Karl-Marx-Allee - of course.
While mentally preparing for the meeting I thought I don't want to interview him as others have done over and over. His story has been told - he has created a testimony by writing his biography. We met and sat down at a table. He was greeted warmly by the waitor. The intimacy suggested that he was a Regular there.
Before I had a chance he started talking about his newest project a new book in English this time but he put some of his books on the table and one was called "Rebel Girls"
